Superintendent William Cope
Rutherford County Correctional Work Center
ACE Awareness Award

Superintendent William C. Cope
Rutherford County Correctional Work Center

The Family Center is proud to recognize William Cope with our 2021 ACE Awareness Award for his compassion, humility, and openness to ensuring parents - incarcerated through the Rutherford County Correctional Work - receive opportunities to learn how their own Adverse Childhood Experiences/Adverse Community Environments often led to their current situations and to participate in programs that help their children create more resilient life journeys.

Since 2010 he’s been instrumental in allowing The Family Center to offer Positive Parenting groups in the facility and in 2019 led the Keeping Families Connected collaborative effort through an Office of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Program grant offering 1:1 support and Family Coaching for families with incarcerated parents (even through the pandemic!). He is known for referring to adults under his team’s care as “residents” rather than “inmates” and ensures their children have more potential in life as a result of their parents maintaining contact, healing old wounds, and breaking potential multigenerational cycles of childhood trauma.

Superintendent Cope is a graduate of the TN Corrections Institute, the TN Corrections Academy, and the National Institute of Corrections Jail Administration Program. He serves as an American Correctional Association certified Auditor/Inspector and is a TN Corrections Institute Certified Instructor. In 2021, he received the Jail Administrator of the Year award from the Tennessee Corrections Institute for his exhibiting excellence in the local corrections environment specifically related to core concepts of accountability, rehabilitation, reentry, and public safety. He lives in Rutherford County with his wife and children and supports programs that help create a community where all children thrive.

Jerre & Denise Richards
Activating Change Award

Jerre & Denise Richards

At The Family Center, Jerre & Denise Richards embody how we hope all families will raise their families. They also support our mission beyond simply attending events or making donations. No matter how small or large our need, they’ve stepped in to help, often encouraging their sons, Jerre’s mom, and other family members to join them. Activating positive change for those we serve has truly become a “family affair!”

Jerre joined our Board of Directors in 2016 while serving as President & CEO of Richards & Richards Office Records Management. He spent time listening and learning before becoming more active… and his activity hasn’t stopped. Raised in Franklin since 8th grade, his commitment to the children of our communities is steadfast… just like his commitment to his sons. Today he and his sons, Tripp and Dobbs, work side by side in their growing family business, Restoration1: doing good while doing well, helping homeowners and companies with disaster recovery after flooding, fires, and even mold remediation.

A Nashville native, Denise recognizes the importance of keeping family close, as well as teaching her sons the value of helping others. A busy person who works as an insurance inspector with JMI Reports and has both an estate sale business and antique booth, she also finds time to give back to The Family Center. Last year she donated pallets of clothing and goods from an estate and recruited friends/family to help with our Yard Sale.

When The Family Center needs decorations for our Family Holiday Party, gifts for children, or tables for events… Jerre & Denise come through. Together they are truly helping so many families!
