ACE Awareness Award Honoree

ACE Awareness Award recognizes individuals or organizations making a difference in expanding awareness about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their impact on the health, mental health, and futures of our children, families, and communities.

Judge Sheila Calloway

Through her leadership with the Davidson County Juvenile Court, she has been at the forefront of guiding staff and families toward better understanding of how children affected by chronic stress are more likely to be the ones to walk through the doors of DCJC. Her goal is to reduce the perpetuation of ACEs when youth and families engage with court.

We are honored to recognize Judge Calloway for making a difference in expanding awareness about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their impact on our children, our families and our community.

Activating Change Award Honorees

Activating Change Award recognizes individuals who have been instrumental in breaking multi-generational cycles of child abuse, neglect, or trauma: through personal investment, advocating on behalf of our community’s vulnerable populations, or increasing engagement in The Family Center mission.

Barbara Burns

Her commitment to Nashville and its families is evidenced through her civic and community leadership spanning 26 years: Cheekwood Botanical Gardens & Museum, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, Children’s Miracle Network, Habitat for Humanity, Room in the Inn, the Junior League, and The Family Center. Barbara treasures our community and its youth. We treasure her.

Tricia McDowell

By sharing her passion for making a difference through her volunteer efforts with The Red Cross, Freedoms Promise, Prevent Blindness Tennessee, Harpeth Hall School, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Junior League, and The Family Center, she has touched the lives of so many families. We are touched by all she does for us and our community.

We are honored to recognize Barbara & Tricia for their personal investment of time and resources on behalf of our families, our community, and the work of The Family Center. Together they have been an unstoppable force in increasing awareness of, and engagement with, our programs through individual efforts on our board... and by co-creating, co-chairing, and for 3 yrs co-championing our annual Change the Tune fundraiser. Nashville is blessed by all they do; we’re blessed to call them family.
